The sky didn't fall down.  The EMV fraud liability shift has passed and not too much has changed at this point in the parking industry.  It will but for now, given the low fraud levels that we believe occur in parking means the need to move immediately to retrofit an existing operation to be EMV-compliant is not there, yet.  For those looking to replace a current non-EMV solution, that it is certainly advisable to seek a solution that does include EMV functionality.

Some interesting news articles appearing already.  The banks and payment networks are happy (for obvious reasons) while it is the merchants and PARCS integrators picking up the tab for new EMV terminals, infrastructure and all other related costs that must be borne.

Here's a good article out today to read that comments on both sides of the coin.

Post-PPA Conference EMV Round Table Review

Attended the Pennsylvania Parking Association conference yesterday in Pittsburgh.  Already a great city to visit and a new conference to attend.  AMG participated in a lively round table discussion on EMV.

Some post-conference thoughts:

1. EMV is still a new concept for many in the parking industry.

2. Doubts over the 'true' security still exist.

3. We need to keep the white paper on EMV and Parking alive and kicking!

Thank you PPA for allowing Aberdeen Management Group to participate.

Beacon technology at airports

There's definitely a move in the airport and airline industry to deploy Bluetooth low energy technology.  The challenge is finding the right balance between giving the right amount of information and too much.  Customers could become turned off at being flooded with adverts.

One airport that's been on the leading edge on many technologies is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.  An article on their beacon trial is here.

Post-IPI Review

After a successful visit to the IPI, there were many positives to take.  The event was a great opportunity to meet existing and new colleagues, get updated on the latest parking technologies and learn from the education sessions.  The EMV and Parking white paper was also discussed by many and we look forward to the upcoming EMV webinar on July 15th, presented by Steven and Tom Wunk of T2 Systems.  It's an exciting time to be involved in parking and Aberdeen remains at the forefront.

Aberdeen Management Group at IPI Conference

Aberdeen will be an active participant at the upcoming IPI Conference in Las Vegas next week. Steven will be moderating a session on  the  Texas A&M University game day mobile app.

Texas A&M University launched a football gameday app to amp up the Aggie gameday experience!  Destination Aggieland helps users get to and from football games using real-time and static tools. The fans had information to help them avoid snarls on roads, access parking lots, and find other gameday opportunities. Come hear the rationale for components included in the app, the effects it had on the event, the outcomes from 2014, and 2015 plans.

Aberdeen will also be tweeting from the conference so stay tuned!
